Orodje of Okpe appeals to PHCN over 6-month power outage

By Emma Arubi

OREROKPE – THE Orodje of Okpe Kingdom in Delta State, HRM Orhue 1, has appealed to the authorities of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, to expedite action in restoring power to Orerokpe and its environs that have been in darkness for the past six months.

He further charged them to instal the 7.5MVA transformer promised the community by the Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji last month when he led some of his chiefs to present their case to him in Abuja, saying Orerokpe, the headquarters of Okpe council area, was until six months ago, still managing a 2.5MVA transformer installed 37 years ago and is now obsolete and non-functional.

Speaking through the secretary to Okpe Traditional Council at the Orodje’s palace, Chief Charles A. Edemenaha, stated that with modernity, growth and development, the old 2.5MVA transformer can no longer power the communities and expressed regret that after the promise by the minister that a 7.5MVA transformer would be brought to the place, PHCN authority in Benin City brought in another dead and obsolete 2.5MVA for installation last week.

According to the secretary, the action angered the youths of the town who then locked up the PHCN office in Orerokpe until the royal father pleaded with them to re-open it for normal business yesterday.
