Nigerian community to build a Legacy House in London

London – The Nigerian Community in the UK is to build a Nigerian Legacy House in London. The project was conceived during the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of Nigerian independence in 2010.

The house, when completed, will serve as a community centre and venue for social interaction and cultural revival for Nigerians resident in the UK.

Dr Tafida, the High Commissioner of Nigeria to the UK, at the inauguration of a 15-man legacy project team on Thursday, said “the project is another milestone in our quest to bequeath a lasting legacy in the UK.’’

“When completed the House will serve as a rallying point and symbol of unity for all Nigerians in the UK, that offers opportunities to connect with the home land, Nigeria,’’ the envoy added.

According  to Tafida,  it is only in Brazil that Nigeria currently has such a cultural centre and with nearly two million Nigerians residing in the UK, it is proper that they have a befitting centre.

He urged members of the legacy team to work in harmony and put the interest of the larger community above their personal or group interests.

Speaking on behalf of the team, Chief Adebayo Oladimeji expressed commitment to offering selfless service to ensure that the project was completed.

The terms of reference of the committee include identifying a suitable location for the project, identifying sources of funding in Nigeria and in the UK, including mortgage.
The team will also explore the long-term sustainability of the project in terms of income streams without dependence on the support of the Nigerian government. (NAN)
