Alhaji Kazeem Adio is a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).He was the Secretary to the State Government until November 26,2010 when the Court of Appeal in Ibadan, Oyo State, nullified the election of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and declared Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) the winner of April 14,2007 governorship election. In this brief interview, Alhaji Adio described the one year administration of Aregbesola in the State as a monumental failure. Excerpts
WHAT is your assessment of the government inpower in the last one year?
The administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in the last one year could better be described as wasteful and a serious setback for the people of the state. As you can see that the administration cannot point to any serious achievement in the State. So, the administration has performed woefully and short of the expectation of the people of Osun State.
Can you be more specific?
This is the first time in this State when workers have gone on strike for as long as four months and knowing full well that Osun State is a civil servant State. So, if workers are unable to receive salaries it will definitely affect the economy of the State.
If you are to rate Aregbesola’s performance, by what percentage will you give the administration performance?
If the expectation of the people of Osun State from Aregbesola is put at say 30 percent in the past one year, I will score him three percent, which is definitely is not a good mark. Aregbesola needs to work more in the years ahead on infrastructure. He needs to work more on the education sector and even the health sector among others”.
Can you compare the business activities in the State now with what obtained during your administration?
There is no basis for comparism between the two administrations as our administration was business-friendly to the people of the State. You can confirm it from market women and the people on the streets. What I am saying is that the business activities in the State in the past one year are at its lowest ebb due to capital flight from the State to Lagos State.
Can you expatiate on this?
Why not? Haven’t you noticed what I can call capital flight from Osun State to Lagos State in the last one year? That is, the money which would have been circulated in the State are being taken away to Lagos State by Lagos contractors who only take money from the State and disappear to Lagos with the money.
What in your view is the implication of this?
Not difficult to see. People are leaving Osun State for other states because the business environment which the Oyinlola administration had created is today no more there and this makes business difficult for both the small and medium scale investors.
What then should the administration do to improve the performance?
As far as I am concerned and I am being very sincere here, there are lots to be done by this administration in the years ahead. He needs to engage in vigorous planning because people have lost hope completely in this administration. So if you ask for my honest assessment of Aregbesola administration in the last one year, I would say it is far below average.
