Abuja – Water-tight security has been observed at the venue of the PDP governorship primary holding at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
The area has been cordoned off to vehicular movement leading to participants trekking more than 500 meters from all the roads leading to the venue.
The affected roads are the Lambert Eradiri/ Mbiama-Yenagoa road junction, DSP Alamieyeseigha Way as well as the St. Peter’s axis of the Mbiama/Yenagoa Road.
At the time of this report, the election has yet to start but ballot boxes for the eight councils are set for the process.
Meanwhile, accreditation of delegates for the election is going on at the Isaac Boro Peace Park, Yenagoa.
In an another development, Gov. Timipre Sylva, had earlier expressed deep concern over the massive deployment of troops and security operatives in Yenagoa, the state capital
This is made known in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor Doifie Ola and given through e-mail in Abuja.
The statement said the governor saw the action as unnecessary and might jeopardise the fundamental human rights of the people of Bayelsa.
The governor urged the people not to feel intimidated by the presence of the troops but to go about their normal businesses and remain calm, trusting that the democratic institution would address the issue.
He expressed his hope in the democratic institutions that had demonstrated the ability to resolve issues arising from the contest for power at all levels
He urged all the parties in the political contest to remember that the interest of the people of Bayelsa was paramount to the ambition of any individual or group of individuals.
The governor thanked the people of Bayelsa for their continued support and patriotism.(NAN
