Jos—University of Jos, Monday, matriculated 4,585 new students who were offered admission of the over 38,000 candidates that applied to the institution.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Hayward Mafuyai, who spoke on the occasion, told the freshers to consider themselves lucky for being among the chosen in the competitive selection process.
He advised them to prove their worth by working hard and to imbibe the values of discipline and dedication preached by the institution, adding, “our students must be sound in character and learning before they are deemed worthy of our certificates.”
He warned them against joining bad groups as membership of any cult could earn them expulsion from the institution.
Mafuyai urged them to take advantage of the various learning opportunities available at the institution especially the e-learning and other ICT facilities to broaden their knowledge and achieving their academic goals.
He said the matriculation ceremony was to acquaint the freshers with the core values and principles that guide the operations of the university.
A freshman, Kelechi Chigbu of the Department of Biochemistry expressed joy at being among those offered admission saying, “I feel pleased to be a student of this great institution.”
