WARRI—YOUTHS of Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State; Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku chapter, and other stakeholders of the institution have called on Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to follow due process and merit in the appointment of a new Rector for the institution.

Ogwashi-Uku Youth Leaders Forum and ASUP, Ogwashi-Uku, in their separate letters, also copied Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Ochei, said the candidate who came tops in the interview conducted by the Governing Council of the polytechnic should be appointed.

Also, Students Union Government of the institution said: “We call on our governor to appoint the very best candidate who came first in the selection process.

“He should not allow outside influence, no matter how highly placed in the society, to change the goal post, in the interest of peace, equity and justice.”

In a related develop-ment, a community leader and member of Ogwashi-Uku Development Union, ODU, Prince Raphael Nti, has denied reports that the union was opposed to the re-appointment of the former Rector, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga.

A source told Vanguard that Egwunyenga came first in the interview conducted by the Prof. A. Ekoko-led Governing Council and that his name and two others, who came second and third, respectively, had been forwarded to Governor Uduaghan for appointment.
