Worried by series of accusations trailing the current security situation in the country, the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has advised Nigerians against blaming the Federal Government or security agencies for the security breaches especially the Boko Haram bombings in Northern Nigeria, saying “it is the responsibility of all citizens.”
Secretary -General of the party, Mr Major Agbo stated in Lagos that Nigerians must join hands with the government to address the issue rather than playing politics and sitting in the comfort of their homes to call for sack of security chiefs. NNPP stated: “We must not build the security of Nigeria on President Goodluck Jonathan, Security Chiefs or individuals, and private organizations. The security of life and property is a collective one though government is the driver of the process”
The party noted that it was time for Nigerians to work together as a people pointing out that security concerns globally were matters of collective responsibility. It further described the current security situation in Nigeria as ‘minor internal challenges of nationhood which symbolized human element existence with diversified needs, interests and expectations’.
It stressed: “What matters at the moment is the reaction and quick response and recovery rate of the government and people of Nigeria. Those disturbing the peace of the greater numbers are very few but are seemingly very organized and coordinated. A coordinated effort by the people will defeat them”.
The NNPP however urged the government to coordinate Nigerians to watch out for the agitators by strengthening security operatives in the act of intelligence gathering and educating the nation on matters of internal security.
