Rain stops U23 Eagles training

Heavy rain on Sunday evening forced Nigeria’s Under23 side, the Dream Team V, to cut short their first training session in Morocco.

After making a quarter of an hour drive from their Hotel Anfa Port lodging to the sports facility of Raja Casablanca, the Nigerian team could not finish their first training session since arriving Morocco last week.

With the weather pegged at 11 degrees celsius, 19 players and officials took to the pitch to start off training.

However, as the training intensified the rains began to drop heavier forcing head coach Austin Eguavoen to call off the session.

“I commend your courage and enthusiasm to go on with the training. But we must stop so as not to incur unnecessary injuries to ourselves,” said Eguavoen after the players insisted on continuing despite the heavy down pour.

The training session lasted for just half an hour.

The Olympic Eagles are expected to have their second training session at the Raja Casablanca Sports Complex on Monday morning.

The Nigerian side face their Moroccan counterparts on Saturday in the opening match of the Caf Under23 Championship.
