Friday, November 18, 2011, may have seemed just like any other day of the week for Lagosians. But for the large audience that witnessed the Lagos edition of the Amstel Malta Showtime that took place that day, it will remain etched in their memories. The event  held at the Harbour Points, was the grand finale of Amstel Malta Showtime.

The line up of Stars at the event was impressive. P Square, WizKid and Ice Prince dazzled the audience on the night. There was also comedy from ace comedian Buchi while dance group, Dance Na The Main Thing, DNTMT, set the hall on fire with their scintillating dance performance.

While the established stars shone, the upcoming stars also had ample opportunity to showcase their talents in the talent hunt competition. The competition saw contestants slugging it out in singing, dancing and comedy.

The atmosphere was electric and the event got off on a fast note with Darey ‘Art’ Alade, the anchor for the night, performing on stage with his dancers. Darey dished out song after song and the audience appreciated the performance he put up.

Darey was not the only one to impress that night. Rave of the moment, WizKid, also thrilled the crowd with his energetic performance. The ladies simply went gaga at the Holla At Your Boy crooner’s stage craftsmanship. But the peak performance of the night was delivered by the duo of P Square.

The twins cemented their reputation as one of Nigerian’s hottest musical acts, with their flawless performance. The crowd rocked and swayed to the rhythm with Peter and Paul Okoye, orchestrating proceedings. Interestingly, the twins were celebrating their 31st birthday that night. They deservedly got heartfelt birthday wishes from the excited audience.

The talent hunt competition was equally exciting. The wannabees slugged it out for who would wear the crown in the singing, dancing and comedy competitions. After a keenly contested session, Sandra Orioha emerged the best in the music category.

Jesse Charming was the best dancer of the night while Aderombi Adedayo emerged the comedian of the night. They were each rewarded with N100,000 shopping voucher, a lap top and an all – expense paid weekend for two in a luxury hotel in Lagos.

In addition to their prizes, the winners also had a rare opportunity of performing alongside the stars. Orioha performed with P Square while Aderombi cracked jokes with Buchi. Dance Na The Main Thing took over the dance floor with Jesse Charming.

Indeed, it has been a successful debut year for Amstel Malta Showtime. The event travelled through four cities leaving excitement in its trail. The event kicked off in August this year in Owerri, Imo State capital. M.I, Ice Prince and Jesse Jagz of the Choc Boiz fame, along with Flavour performed on the night while comedy was supplied by Buchi. The Enugu edition saw P Square and Naeto C as the major acts while M.I, Banky W and WizKid performed in Abuja.

Speaking on the event, Mrs. Adedoyin Owotomo, Brand Manager, Amstel Malta, expressed satisfaction at the event. “It has been a rollercoaster ride for us this year and we are satisfied with what we have been able to achieve with Amstel Malta,” she said.
