THE Minister of Power, Prof. Bart Nnaji’s, recent commendation on his achievements in the power sector by the lawmakers has attracted varied reactions from the public. Here are the reactions from some individuals:
Mr. chukwuemeka Ani – civil servant
There has been a drastic change in power supply in my area –Oke Afa, Ago Palace Way, and it is not like an industrial area. At least I can boast of enjoying stable electricity except when problems arise in the transformer which happens as a result of over load. So, I think it is quite a significant improvement coming from the power sector.
Ebubechi Ikedioramma – Businessman: He has done nothing to deserve this commendation. Power supply here in Festac Town, is not so regular and I know what I spend every day on fuel. At times I get to see light only three hours in a day for a week, in some other cases; I don’t see it at all.
Encouraging investors
Every time, they remind us of the amount of money that has been put in the power sector, yet there is nothing to show for it and they are here making noise with the commendation of what? Something needs to be done in this country about power supply to encourage investors to invest in our country to make our economy grow.
Emeka Chukwura – Cyber café operator: No, he (Nnaji) does not deserve this at all. I thought awards or commendations go with jobs well done but why this. It is so funny hearing this. What has he done? Go to some other African countries, you will see what is called functional power sector (power supply).
Countries now produce generator sets of all type and export to Nigeria where it is needed because they know that Nigeria lacks power supply. Take a walk into the streets and you will observe there is nothing like a peaceful environment anymore not to talk of the business premises. This is Nigeria where everything goes, he has been commended and nothing can be done about that, so I think a word is enough for the wise.
