WARRI- GUNMEN have kidnapped a septuagenarian, Madam Gbubemi, mother of Delta State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Mr. Mofe Pirah.
Madam Gbubemi was kidnapped on Sunday on her way to church her, God’s Grace Ministry, at Eyara village. It was gathered that the kidnappers ambushed her vehicle in Udu Local Government Area of the state and took her away at gunpoint.
A woman and a 15-year-old girl, who were in the car with her were seized but later released, while the driver, who was allegedly locked in the booth of the Toyota car, it was gathered, told security agents that he escaped.
Anti-kidnapping Task Force of the Delta Waterways Security Committee, DWSC, it was learnt, immediately swung into action and trailed the kidnappers to a thick forest, behind Unity School, Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area, where the Toyota car was found.
It was further gathered that a kidnap kingpin, identified as Kevwe, has a den in the area, but his whereabouts were unknown, Monday.
The kidnappers, Vanguard learnt had contacted the Commissioner on phone but it was not clear if they asked for ransom.
A top official of the task force confided in Vanguard, yesterday, that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the kidnap. He said the task force was not satisfied with the story of the driver.
The official said: “We have spread our dragnet to locate where they took the mother of the Commissioner and our advice is that nobody should pay ransom to anybody.
“They should contact security agents whenever the kidnappers call anybody and I assure you that we will fish them out.”
