NATIONAL President of Nigerian Union of Petroleum Employees and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, Comrade Igwe Achese wants the Federal Government to be careful over its plans to deregulate the oil sector.

Speaking in Calabar yesterday, he warned that NUPENG would resist any attempt by the Federal Government to deregulate the petroleum downstream sector if they do not first of all put the refineries in proper working order.

Achese, who was speaking at a national training seminar with the theme: Transformational agenda and processes in the oil and gas industry, issues for trade union leaders’ consideration, said the union is not happy that the nation’s refineries are not working optimally.  He added that issues affecting the oil and gas sector need to be handled with absolute care otherwise the nation could be thrown into chaos.
