NPL should be more professional – Ogunbote

By KATE OBODO
As the 2011/2012 season of the Premier League resumes soonest, Sunshine Stars coach Gbenga Ogunbote, has advised the manag-ement of the Nigeria Premier League to focus on a good and planned programme that will better the league.

Ogunbote, whose side suffered a lone goal defeat to Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kaduna last Sunday, frowned at the prolonged 2010/2011 season which did not do Nigerian Football any good and therefore urged them to come out with a better plan that will help the league in order to avoid the occurrence that caused the delay of the 2010/2011 season.

“It was a good one (the match against Pillars in Kano) and we gave our all in that last match but unfortunately our best was not good enough for us to win the tournament. But then, we will take solace in the fact that we will be playing in the 2012 CAF Champions League alongside the eventual league winners.

“Talking about the 2010/2011, aside the prolonged season, it was not a bad one. It was better than last season’s in terms of bad pitches. But then there are other things that have to be put into consideration that will make it a real tournament.

Continuing he said, “to be honest, they should put up a good plan that will help improve the game further, unlike what it was last season. A lot of factors must be put into consideration if the league must be like other leagues in the world.

“They have to also consider the teams that are playing in the continent. The teams that played in the continent were not responsible for the delay of the league but bad planning and political issues contributed to it. This time around they should be professional in their management. They should have a well planned football calender for our league,” he added.
