Nigerian female lifter, Maryam Usman has moved up the world rankings in her category 15 kg.
She told Sunday Vanguard Sports after the Nigerian contingent returned from the World Weightlifting Championship that she plans to correct her mistakes at the championship to set herself in good shape for another feat in the African qualifiers and the Olympics.
“The Championship was okay for me. I was able to improve on my world record. I was no 5th in the world but moved up one step to 4th. I hope to get a slot for the Olympics with my improvement at the championship and also add to it during the final qualifiers coming up in March next year.
“We arrived late to the championship. We got to the tournament on the third day and one of us had to go straight into competition from then airport. It affected our performance but notwithstanding; we still did well as a team,” Usman said.
On what she plans to correct before the African Qualifiers, she said, “I did 121 snatch and the referee did nit give it to me. I think I made I mistake or so, this is where I want to improve upon in the Africa qualifiers. I am very sure I will qualify for the Olympics in London,” Usman added.
