Lafia— Governor Umaru Almakura of Nasarawa State, Tuesday, taught Social Studies to JSS 3 students of Government Science Secondary School, Lafia, to mark his 58th birthday.
The governor urged the students to imbibe the virtues of discipline, integrity and contentment to become good leaders in the future.
He said his choice of teaching to mark his birthday was borne out of the desire to do things that would add value to the society.
’’I don’t usually celebrate my birthday with funfare and parties. As a teacher, teaching is very exciting and enjoyable to me.
’’And, there could not be a better way to celebrate than imparting knowledge to the young impressionable minds,” he said.
Almakura said his greatest desire was to go back to the classroom as a teacher after his public or active service.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reported that Almakura taught the students on societal values in a lesson that lasted more than 30 minutes.
The session was witnessed by his Deputy, Mr Damishi Luka, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Hajia Zainab Abdul-Mumin and staff of the school.
Some of the students, who spoke to NAN, said, they were elated to have been taught by the state governor.
Musa Abdullahi, a student, said, it was like a dream, adding, “this is the most memorable day of my life andI promise to imbibe all that we learnt.”
