LAGOS — Residents of Kirikiri Town, Lagos State have urged the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, to restrain from extorting operators of the oil tank farms operating in the area, in other to allow them fulfill their social responsibilities to the area.

Speaking in a meeting between LASEPA officials, in Lagos, a leader of the Kirikiri Community Development Area, Mr. Yemi Vincent, alleged that some LASEPA officials have been harassing and intimidating operators of oil tank farms in the area, whereby preventing from carrying out some of the developmental projects they had promised the Kirikiri community.

Yemi appreciated efforts by LASEPA to ensure that the area was kept clean and free from hazard.

He said: “The Kirikiri community appreciates the presence of the oil tank farms in our area, as they had assisted providing jobs for our youths. We have had several meetings with the oil companies on development and they promised to bring in developmental projects to the community, by expanding existing roads and erecting more drainages. But after five oil tank farms were shut down in August, where over N15 million was taken from them, the oil companies have been reneging on their promises and they blamed LASEPA for this.”
