GLO 1 international submarine cable, Africa’s major bandwidth provider, has formally  commenced  the activation of high speed internet bandwidth connectivity at Babcock, Nigeria’s premier private university campus in Ogun State.

Head of Glo 1 Enterprise Solutions, Folu Aderibigbe, said at the unveiling of the business relationship in Lagos that the connectivity would provide very fast and reliable internet services so critical to BabcockAfrica’s pacesetter university.

Glo 1 had a few months ago signed a multiple-million Naira deal with the university for the provision of 40 mega bytes of internet link – the largest in the country’s education sector so far.

This is especially in preparation for the January 2012 takeoff of Babcock University’s Benjamin S. Carson School of Medicine and the Babcock Business School both of which operate smart classrooms, simulation laboratories and high-tech instructional facilities hooked on to global partners around the world.

“With the activation of the contract, the university’s staff and students will be able to leverage the power of the Glo 1 cable to conduct their online research and realtime laboratory and classroom collaborative teaching from renown scholars around the world on virtually all subject areas. It will be an exciting new experience for them/” Aderibigbe explained.

He added that Glo 1 was steadily moving towards realizing its vision of bringing 100% prosperity to Africa: Glo l’s contribution to various sectors including education, healthcare, oil and gas, power and manufacturing, is clearly becoming evident”.

President/Vice Chancellor of Babcock, Prof. J.A. Kayode Makinde, expressed delight at delivery of the contract by Glo and noted the huge expectation of the university community that Glo 1 would address its internet requirements once and for all, and make research and academic work a pleasant and seamless experience.

Makinde added that, while the new deal strengthens the relationship between Babcock and Globalcom, it only represents the launching pad of another level of collaboration between the two vision-driven organizations “because Babcock requires a relentless periodic upgrade in both volumetric and qualitative capacity of technology to keep pace with its global partners as a world class faith-based higher educational institution impacting the world through is alumni, staff and students.”

All Babcock senior staff and management currently use Glo Blackberry services while the network has also provided postpaid CUG plans for both staff and students.
