Enugu-Enugu State Government has purchased 300 buses for all the public primary and secondary schools in the state at a cost of N1.4 billion.
Dr Simon Ortuanya, Commissioner for Education, announced this on Tuesday in Enugu, while opening the National Information Quiz Competition for secondary schools in the South- East zone.
Ortuanya said the buses would facilitate performance and reduce the challenges of transportation being encountered by schools in the state.
According to him, this is the first time any administration in the state has done this after the regime of former Gov. Jim Nwobodo of the old Anambra State.
The commissioner said that the government had taken an integrated approach to educational development in the state, including Information and Communication Technology, ICT.
Ortuanya said that the ministry had conducted needs assessment of all the public schools in the state to ascertain their needs and how to address them.
