Auchi-Abuja Road erosion project gets deadline

By Simon Begbulem

BENIN-Federal Government, Tuesday, ordered the contractor handling the N1.3 billion Auchi-Okenne-Abuja Road erosion site project and that of Ayogwiri in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, to ensure that the roads were completed by December.

Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolenmemen, who gave the order to officials of Setraco Construction Company, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far and expressed the determination of Federal Government to ensure that the roads were motorable by December for the sake of travellers.

It will be recalled that the gully erosion at Jattu Junction, about 750 metres long, had cut-off the road leading to Okene and Abuja for over three months.

Federal Government awarded the reconstruction contract to Setraco.

Onolemenmen, who inspected the erosion site, yesterday, said: “I am happy that work is going on as planned. Before the festive period we should be able to restore the roads back to good condition.”

You will recall that a couple of weeks ago, I was here and I did promised that Federal Government was going to intervene in this ecologically impacted site.
