ABEOKUTA – Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State and Secretary-General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Dr. Lateef Adegbite, have advised Muslims in the country to steer clear of violence and other crimes, saying the activities of Boko Haram is giving Islam a bad name.
They spoke yesterday in Abeokuta, during the celebration of 1433 new Hijrah Muslim year organised by the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations, NACOMYO,Ogun State chapter.
Speaking, Governor Amosu urged Muslims involved in violence and other crimes to abandon such vices and embrace positive virtues for the betterment of the society.
Represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shuaib Salisu, he advised Muslims to be role models to others in the society, saying that, Hijrah represented triumph over evil acts.
According to him “we must remember that hijrah is a movement from defeat to victory, from vices to virtues, from unrighteousness to righteousness, sorrow to joy among others. We can’t live in isolation; we must live in peace with others, because together, we are all citizens of the state.”
Similarly, Adegbite urged Muslims in the country to imbibe the teachings of Hijrah, which denotes tolerance and peace, saying that, Boko Haram had wrongly named Muslims as agents of violence and destabilization.
