KADUNA — Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Wednesday, scoffed at Tuesday’s brawl in the Senate over alleged non-performance by President Goodluck Jonathan, stressing that the poor security situation cited for the anger of the National Assembly was not the only challenges facing the nation.

ACF’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Anthony Sani, said this in a telephone interview with Vanguard.

He said the ‘’no confidence vote,’’ which was allegedly averted in the Senate by its President, Senator David Mark, was alien to the Presidential system of government which the country operates.

According to the ACF scribe, the uproar in the Senate over the security challenges facing the country was undeserving of special response from the organisation.

Senators returned from the Eid-el-Kabir holidays, Tuesday, in angry mood with President Jonathan over the tense security situation occasioned by the activities of the Boko Haram sect, among others, lamenting what they described as Jonathan’s inability to protect life and property.

However, apparently miffed by the decay in other sectors of the national life, ACF lamented that the protection of life and property was the primary responsibility of government, it was wrong to single it out, as if other problems had either been successfully addressed or tackled.

He said: ‘’We are operating a Presidential system of government which does not use confidence or no confidence vote as mode of its operations. So, I do not know the circumstance under which the no vote of confidence was averted.

’’It is a truism that the number one responsibility of any government is to maintain law and order for purposes of securing life and property of the people.

’’It is also true that the country is experiencing security challenges in many parts of the nation, but this is also true of any other facet of our national life.

’’Just consider the collapse of national ideals and moral values which some people attribute to failure of our religious leaders to inspire cultural renaissance.

’’Mr President has already listed all the national malaise as challenges of his government. And, so, there is nothing new about the challenges facing the nation and how to work hard and overcome them. All these are commonplace knowledge undeserving of any special response from ACF,” he added.
