Accident claims 14 lives,13 others sustain injuries in Zamfara

Tsafe (Zamfara) – The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Zamfara has confirmed the death of 14 people in a motor accident at Wanzamai Village on Gusau-Zaria road in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Cheche Orji who confirmed the accident on Saturday in Tsafe, said that the 13 others injured had been admitted at Tsafe General Hospital.

An eye witness, Malam Muhammad Tela, had earlier said that the accident which occurred on Friday night at about 9 p.m, involved a J5 bus and Golf Volkswagen car.

Tela said that there was a collision of both vehicles on a narrow bend close to Wanzamai Village, on Zamfara and  Katsina state boundary.

He said that the bus caught fire instantly and many of the passengers were burnt beyond recognition, adding that 14 of the victims from the two vehicles died instantly.

The commander attributed the accident to wrong overtaking and expressed the fear that the number of death could rise due to the critical condition of those admitted at the hospital.

He advised motorists to always avoid dangerous driving and abide by traffic rules and regulations. (NAN)
