Urhobo groups head for merger

By Festus Ahon
UGHELLI—WORRIED by the seeming political disunity in the Urhobo nation, a 12-man committee has been inaugurated to work out the modalities for the merger of the Urhobo Political Forum, UPF, and the Urhobo Consultative Forum, UCF.

The committee which was inaugurated at the residence of Chief G. Sefia, was given two weeks to come out with a workable way to merge UPF and UCF, that where hitherto led by Chief Ighoyota Amori and Chief Tom Amioku, respectively.

Members of the committee, drawn from the two groups are Chief Ighoyota Amori, Chief Moses Odibo, Chief Monday Igbuya, Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, Chief Ebenezer Okorodudu and Chief Faith Majemite, representing UPF; while Chief Tom Amioku, Chief Terry Noah, Chief Michael Adiotomre, Dr. Steve Oru, Mrs. Evelyn Ojakovo and Chief Robert Onome, representing UCF.

Chief Sefia said the committee will work towards the establishment of a new united Urhobo political group to replace UPF, UCF and any other similar groups and propose a suitable name for the new organisation.

He charged the committee to recommend a functional framework and organs at both the centre and local government levels for the effective operation on the new organisation with a specific role for the elders, amongst others.

He added that both groups would merge into one body with a view to face the challenges confronting the Urhobo nation.
