ILORIN – KWARA State House of Assembly Election Petitions’ Tribunal yesterday annulled the victory of the member representing Ilorin West Constituency, Hajia Segilola Abdulkadir, PDP, saying that it was not only inconclusive but marred by irregularities.
The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN candidate during the poll, Rasaq Saadu alleged irregularities in the election and dragged both the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and Hajia Abdulkadir before the tribunal.
The three- man panel headed by Justice Bitrus Sanga in its judgement unanimously nullified the election for being inconclusive and also not conducted in compliance with the provisions of the 2010 Electoral Act as amended.
Justice Sanga pointed out inconsistencies in the election procedures saying, “These inconsistences in the exhibits needed serious explanation from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, but the Commission kept silent in their final addresses in explaining the issue.s’’
’’The only thing to do is to nullify this election and order for fresh one in the constituency, and we so hold.
’’The election into Ilorin West Central Constituency of April 26 is hereby nullified for being inclusive and non-compliant with the provisions of the 2010 Electoral Act as amended.”
