By Jimitota Onoyume

PORT HARCOURT – THE people of Ogale in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, have dragged Shell Petroleum Development Company, before two separate courts over the pollution of their land.

Paramount ruler of Ogale community, Emere Godwin Bebe-Okpabi, who conducted newsmen round some of the spill sites in the community, yesterday, said the ugly development had polluted water from the ground, a situation he said forced the community to drag Shell before a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt and another court in Detroit, United States of America.

He said: “The suit was filed before the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, and we want the court to declare that what Shell has done, through themselves or their subsidiaries, in whatever form or name, against people of Ogale is against the law. We also want the court to order them to come and do a thorough medical check up on all of us to know the level of cancer that is in every Ogale person.”
