PDP probes fake membership cards in C/River

By Johnbosco Agbakwuru

Calabar – Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Cross River State has alerted security agencies to investigate the source of fake party membership cards in circulation in parts of the state.

PDP had recently embarked on a revalidation exercise and issuance of membership cards to its members nationwide. But investigations revealed that membership cards of the party, suspected to be neither original nor from the state party secretariat, were given to some members.

State Chairman of the party, Mr. Ekpo Okon, who confirmed the circulation of fake membership cards in the state, said the matter had been reported to security agents.

He said: “We have seen some cards that did not come through the state secretariat. Some of these cards did not pass through the appropriate channel. Any card issued outside the ones we collected and paid for from the national secretariat is fake.

“We have called to confirm from the national secretariat and we were told that outside the ones we paid for and collected, cards were not issued to the state. So, any card outside the ones we issued is fake. We have reported to security agents and investigations are on-going.”

Okon, who was at the meeting convened by political leaders of the South Senatorial District to endorse Governor Liyel Imoke and his deputy, Mr. Efiok Cobham, for a second tenure, promised to ensure that every member of the party seeking any position was given equal opportunity.
