Ovia Constituency: Tribunal upholds ACN candidate’s election

By Gabriel Enogholase

BENIN-THE National /States Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benin, yesterday, dismissed the petition by Mr. Charity Amayanvbo of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, challenging the declaration of Eng. Isaac Osahon of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, as the winner of the April 9 election for Ovia Federal Constituency by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Amayanvbo, had in his petition, alleged irregularities in the election, saying the ACN candidate, Osahon, was not duly elected by a majority votes cast during the election for Ovia Federal Constituency.

He argued that he (Amayanvbo) ought to be declared the winner of the election, having scored the majority lawful votes in the election.

However, the tribunal in its judgment held that the tribunal does not have the moral justification to annul the election of Osahon, adding that the nullification of an election was a heavy responsibility that must be based on solid evidence.
