The reigning African Table Tennis Champion Offiong Edem has dedicated the three gold medals and one silver she won at the just concluded All African Games in Maputo, Mozambique to Governor Liyel Imoke for motivating the Nigerian Table Tennis players from Cross River State before the All Africa Games.
Edem who was speaking in an interview in Calabar decried lack of interest and sponsorship by the Federal Government and Corporate organization towards the game of table tennis in the country.
She said that before the games, Governor Imoke sponsored the state female table tennis team to Morocco for a competition, explaining that the trip helped to expose the players and also made them to learn more tricks.
Edem said, “If Nigeria had not gone to the championship in Morocco, it would have been difficult for us during the Maputo games. We thank the Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke, who ensured that he sponsored us to that competition. I dedicate my medals to him.”
