LAGOS—Operatives of the Lagos State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Tuesday, arrested three suspected drug traffickers for allegedly conveying 316.65 kilogrammes of cannabis with a Hilux vehicle belonging to the Ondo State Government on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.
The suspects are Mr. Olasupo Olabode, Mrs. Rose Ossai and Mrs. Grace Adejo.
According to NDLEA Lagos State Commander, Mr. Aliyu Sule, “the suspects smuggle cannabis from Owo in Ondo State to distribute same in Lagos.”
“This group specialises in inter-state distribution of cannabis. They operate cleverly, using official vehicles as cover. We got information and arrested them. We must work hard in making Lagos drug free,” Aliyu said.
He added a driver and two women, members of group are currently at large and are being hunted by officials of the command.
Narrating his ordeal, Olabode, one of the suspects, explained that one Ogidan Kayode, the official driver of the vehicle used in smuggling the cannabis was responsible for his involvement.
“My daughter was sick and I needed N6,000 for her treatment. I met my colleague, Kayode for help and he promised to assist. He later drove his official vehicle to my house in Akure and told me to convey cannabis from Owo to Lagos. That was how I got involved. All I wanted was to take care of my sick child but unfortunately, we were arrested,” Olasupo stated.
