IKEJA—Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers’ Association, NATCA, has called for the commercialisation of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, stressing that it would boost accountability and eliminate wastages associated with most government’s agencies.
President of the association, Mr. Haske Jibrin, said this at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, adding that if NAMA was commercialised, it would bring about transparency on how the organisation was run.”
“The advantage of commercializing NAMA is that it brings a lot of transparency on how the organisation is run, it brings accountability which is necessary for efficiency, it equally eliminate wastages and other inefficiencies inherent in a typical government bureaucracy, so we are advocating for NAMA to be fully commercialize.
“I am sure that this can be done through a statutory provision in which case the agency will simply operate like a commercial entity, the main concern of course is safety but then you are also going to put certain mechanisms to ensure that you recover cost,” he added.
Jibrin advised the new Managing Director of the agency Engr Nnadi Udoh to focus on the issue of communication in the agency, noting that the problem had been on ground for more than two years.
