LAGOS- five days to the conduct of local government council elections in Lagos State, an aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. David Sanni, has faulted the voting pattern adopted for the polls.

Sanni, a lawyer, and pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG, who is contesting for the chairmanship of Mosan- Okunola Local Council Development Authority, said the voting arrangement put on ground by the State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, was fraught with irregularities and would encourage multiple voting and rigging.

He warned that any attempt to rig the election would be resisted, stressing that the people should be given opportunity to elect candidates of their choice.

He said: “I query the constitutional provision that allows local government elections to be conducted by the state- controlled electoral commission. By this, you have not only institutionalised rigging, you have given the party in power absolute control of their state’s electoral offices, to determine what pattern elections and voting would take and also determine who the chairmen of the various local councils would be.

“I can tell you that LASIEC had already planned how it would rig the elections in favour of its party aspirants. They are not interested in credible elections but as an opposition party, we shall ensure that this election is credible by monitoring them,” he added.
