Jonathan begins two-day visit to Rwanda today

BY DANIEL IDONOR

ABUJA-PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan will this morning begin a two-day working visit to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.

The last time Jonathan visited that country was September, during the inauguration of President Paul Kagame.

While in Kigali, the President is expected to visit the Rwanda genocide memorial, where he will lay a wreath in honour of the victims of the 1994 globally acclaimed catastrophe.

Also, Jonathan will hold talks with his host, President Paul Kagame, at Urugwiro Village, tomorrow.

The two Heads of State will lead delegations of their respective countries to a bilateral talks, aimed at strengthening ties between Nigeria and Rwanda as well as African and global issues and hold a joint press conference.

Rwanda and Nigeria enjoy good and established relations, reinforced by the opening of a Rwanda High Commission in Abuja earlier this year.

Currently, 38 Nigerian health professionals are volunteering their expertise in Rwanda under the Nigeria Technical Aid Corps, TAC.

Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Rwanda and Nigeria are scheduled to formalise a framework for comprehensive bilateral cooperation.
