Imo guber: Hearing in PDP suit continues

BY CHIDI NKWOPARA
OWERRI—Hearing in the suit brought before the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Owerri by the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against the declaration of Chief Rochas Okorocha as governor of Imo State, continues.

At the last sitting, PDP filed a motion in which it prayed the Tribunal to allow it field two more witnesses in its bid to not only prove that gubernatorial election was actually held April 26, 2011, but that Chief Ikedi Ohakim roundly won the poll and should be declared winner of the contest.

The PDP has fielded more than 30 witnesses, while the Tribunal has accepted some exhibits tendered by the plaintiff, including certified true copies of election result sheets and video recordings.

Meanwhile, members of the governor’s campaign machine, Agenda Group, and the Rescue Mission, have decided to continue storming the High Court 8 venue of the Tribunal, to show solidarity with Okorocha.

Some concerned citizens, who spoke to Vanguard, appealed to security agencies to “avert a possible clash between the opposing sides in the matter, as well as ensure that the Tribunal is not turned into a battle ground for politicians.”
