FG urged to give priority to non-oil sector

The Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari has advised the Federal Government to give priority to the private sector as a means of generating employment for the teeming youths in the country rather than concentrating on crude oil.

The Governor gave the advice at the opening ceremony of the new Bolton White Hotel and Apartment Extension in Abuja last weekend, noting that only conducive environment can promote micro economic development in Nigeria.

He said there are lots of opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sector that can be employed to boost the country’s economy in view of its strategic position.

Alhaji  Yari said diversification of the country’s economy is most appropriate at the present time taking cognisance of the enormous human and natural resources in the country.

His words; “The problem of Nigeria today is not that we do not have resources but the managers are more than the recourses so we all agree that we have a serious problem when it comes to issue of unemployment and any sector that developed and employ that sector must be commend”.

“There are so many sectors we need to develop so that we can have our people employed and government has to do everything possible to support private sector so that they can employ people”.

In his remark, the Chairman and CEO Bolton White hotel and Apartment Limited, Chief Polycarp Obiukwu in his remarks, said “government cannot provide everything for her citizens and there is need for the private sector participation to national development especially in tourism and hospitality sector”.

He added that the hotel is established as part of their contributions to the human and capital development with more than hundred of Nigerians graduates of different tribes employed in line with the eighteen thousand-naira minimum wage policy.

Also, the General Manager of Bolton White Hotel, Chinedu Anakwe pleaded the government to encourage investors by promoting peaceful and conducive atmosphere, as he stressed the need for removal of multiple taxation.
