FG dissolves all boards

BY DANIEL IDONOR
ABUJA—PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, approved the immediate dissolution of all federal government boards and parastatals.

He also constituted a presidential committee, chaired by Vice President Namadi Sambo, to compose new boards for the public institutions.

Jonathan who made the announcement at the inauguration of the Committee on the composition of the boards of federal government parastatals chaired by Vice President Namadi Sambo described the committee as “the most powerful committee,” noting that the former members of the various boards were not sent packing because they were incompetent but because it was the tradition to do so every four years.

The president said: “It is customary that at the end of every four years the boards of federal government parastatals, agencies are dissolved. The dissolution would have been done earlier but of course this is a continuous government that is why we were not in a hurry to dissolve boards. But of course we have to review and reposition properly.

We are formally inaugurating this committee headed by the Vice President, one of the most powerful committees because most senior people from the executive, the legislature and the party (Peoples Democratic Party) are members.

“We believe that you will do this work very quickly. First and foremost of course the tradition is to ration it, go to the states and so on and so forth, then we will now call the state governors for a meeting after that compiling of names will take place.”
