FORMER national president of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Dr. Chris Ekiyor, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to reconsider the fuel subsidy issue before taking a final decision on it.
Similarly, another Niger Delta activist, Mr. Paul Bebenimibo, weekend, said support for Jonathan by the masses was dwindling across the country because of his planned removal of petroleum subsidy and non-fulfilment of his electoral promises.
Bebenimibo, who described the planned removal of fuel subsidy as a betrayal of the masses and an indication of gross failure by government, urged President Jonathan not to succumb to the anti-masses agenda.
Ekiyor, who spoke to Vanguard in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, wondered why President Jonathan, who protected the interest of the masses with the way he managed the fuel crisis in his early days in power, would want to do the opposite now.
He said: “Instead of removing fuel subsidy, the President should concentrate on the many challenges facing the country.”
