Delta state swimming team has continued its dominance of the local scene with its latest triumph at the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Development Council sponsored States Secondary Schools swimming competition held at the ultra-modern Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium complex swimming pool, Port Harcourt, Rivers State from 12th-16th October, 2011.

Team Delta emerged tops after garnering a total of 811 points to clinch the overall winners trophy, Ondo and Rivers State placed second and third positions with 433 and 254 points respectively in the 5-day event.

Executive chairman of the Delta state sports council, Amaju Pinnick said the victory was a step in the right direction. “This is part of our build-up to the 18th edition of the National Sports Festival to be held in Lagos next year,” he said, adding that the state had embarked on series of grassroots programmes with a view to keeping the athletes in good shape..
