Declare Emergency On Abia Roads – Ohajuruka

By Anayo Okoli
Umuahia—Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the last elections in Abia State, Chief Stanley Ohajuruka, has asked the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on all federal and state roads in the state, saying this remained the only way the people would feel a sense of belonging in the Nigerian federation.

Ohajuruka, who addressed journalists in Umuahia, said the state needed urgent attention, if it was to survive.

According to him, the repair of the roads in the state should not be left in the hands of Governor Theodore Orji and the Federal Government alone.

He pointed out that every well meaning person in the state should join in the race to rescue the state by letting the Federal Government know the dilapidated state of the roads.

He said that the condition of the roads in Aba, in particular, was quite dehumanizing, pointing out that the roads had collapsed and drains blocked.

Ohajuruka warned that if something urgent was not done, the state might soon explode with several diseases.

He said: “We have seen the rate floods have been devastating some states because of both bad roads and poor drainage system. If something is not done urgently and soon, Abia State will soon join those states being ravaged by flood.

“President Jonathan should come to the help of the state and also use the massive support he received during the election from the people of the state to help the state and to show the people that they are members of the federating unit called Nigeria,” he said.

On the issue of indigenization currently going on in the state, Ohajuruka called on the state government to rescind its decision of sending non-indigenes back to their states, saying it will be detrimental to the unity of Igbo people.
