DCP bemoans poor facilities at Sapele Prison

By Godwin Oghre
Deputy Controller in charge of Sapele Prison in Delta State, Mr. Igbavboa John, has decried the state of  facilities in the prison. He said the inmates deserved better condition of restricted life.

Igbavboa, who addressed newsmen, Tuesday, at the presentation of over 500 mattresses procured for the inmates by Christ Embassy Church, Akintola Road branch, Sapele, in commemoration of Nigeria 51 independence anniversary, said the facilities housing the inmates were outdated and due for total reconstruction and renovation.

He said there was need to bring the structures to the minimum standard set out by the United Nations for prison inmates.

While appealing to well-meaning Nigerians and governments to come to the aid of Sapele prison, he said the little renovation done, which included a computer training centre and some recreational facilities in the prison, were the handiwork of philanthropists.

He thanked the church for the kind gesture and especially for the water borehole sunk in the prison by the church.
