ABUJA-APPARENTLY worried by the activities of Boko Haram and political developments that have relegated the North to the background, the pan Northern socio-cultural group, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, says it plans to organise a conference on peace and unity.
Chairman of Contact and Mobilisation committee of the conference, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Gusau, told Speaker of House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, that the conference would be a holistic one that would involve present and old generation leaders.
During a courtesy call on the Speaker yesterday, Alhaji Gusau, former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, said the present situation in the North was not acceptable to the ACF, which made the proposed conference very necessary.
Before the meeting continued behind closed door, the leader of the delegation said: “In view of the insecurity in the North and other parts of the country, ACF is left with no option than to put its house in order. We cannot afford to be left behind in the scheme of things.
“We realised that under our revered late Sardauna, nobody dared say he was a Muslim or a Christian. Everybody lived together in peace and the nation was moving forward. But now, things have changed to the level that we are now at each other’s neck.
“The situation is unacceptable and ACF has decided to organise a conference to address all these problems and proffer solutions.”
Alhaji Gusau added that the North could not accept the situation whereby other regions were developing their people and resources while the North was busy killing themselves under whatever guise.
Although he did not disclose the date and venue of the conference, he, however, informed the Speaker that people of the region who worked with the late Sardauna would participate in the conference. Also to be invited are the generation of leaders after the Sardauna and the new generation of leaders in the region.
