ABEOKUTA— Twenty four hours after some political appointees of former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, appeared brfofore the House of Assembly committee on land matters, the state government has commenced another move to probe the former governor for allegedly duping thousands of land owners of their lands.
It was a hectic task for the security agencies, yesterday, in Abeokuta, when thousands of villagers and acclaimed land owners besieged Oke-Mosan governor’s office, the venue of judicial commission of inquiry on land matters to demand for justice, claiming that their lands were acquired by some individuals in the government.
No fewer than 114 petitions were received by the commission, while 52 were registered by the clerk for their appearance before the commission.
During the session, the state Director, National Population Commission, NPC, Alhaji Rasaq Ayeni accused the state government under Daniel of allegedly acquiring the commission’s two plots of land located at Lukosi,Oke-Mosan owned by an individual.
Ayeni told the commission how the documents of the plots of land allocated to the NPC in 1987 alongside other Federal Government agencies got missing and relocated the land to one Dr. Oni with C of O, urging the commission to intervene in order to allow it build the NPC state secretariat.
Responding to the petition, a director in the Bureau of land and Survey, Kunle Osota, explained that, the land may have been relocated because of the failure of the NPC to develop the land.
Osota who further explained that the Bureau is yet to get the record of NPC in its custody as demanded by the commission, saying that, the office had been gutted by fire on two different occasion and may not be able to trace the file in question.
The chairman of the commission , Justice Abiodun Akinyemi expressed dissatisfaction over the explanation given by the Director of Land and Survey , asking him to provide all documents relating to the matter before the commission the subsequent sitting.
