Ibadan – Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, a former Minister of Sports, says he will evolve an ICT-driven administrative structure for the ruling PDP, if elected as its National Secretary.

The former Oyo State education commissioner made the pledge in an interview on Tuesday in Ibadan.

He described the position of national secretary of any party as its “engine room”, especially in view of the federal administration’s transformation agenda for the generality of the country.

“I believe that I am eminently well positioned and qualified with the energy to drive PDP to the next millennium.

“This is because PDP requires members who will not only see it as an avenue of ascending to elective position but also as a party that is supposed to have conscious efforts for the welfare of its members.”

The former minister foresaw a party that would have an accurate documentation of its members, saying that “whether the party forms the government or not, people will continue to be happy to be part of it”.

Adedoja explained that the position of secretary was to energise party activities in the various states, whether there were  elections or not.

“In the past, activities of political parties are known only when election is coming up; that is the kind of thinking and orientation that my assuming the secretaryship of the party would change.”

The aspirant described PDP as a party which its uniqueness “lies in the fact that the party has put in place sustainable programmes that will make life meaningful to the people in the areas of education, agriculture, power, employment, health and rural transformation.

“Also, PDP is unique because it has produced the president for this country under Obasanjo for eight years, produced Yar’Adua as president and also produced Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the incumbent President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“So Nigerians are looking  forward to PDP as a party of salvation for Nigeria as a country, the party that has produced many state governors and legislators, both in the National and State Houses of Assembly.

“Therefore, people look forward to PDP as a party that will transform Nigeria.”

Adedoja, however, noted that in spite of its uniqueness, the PDP was confronted with many challenges which had resulted in the problems witnessed in the 2011 elections in some states, particularly in the South-West. (NAN)
