IBADAN-ACTION Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Oyo State has described the statement credited to the Minister of State for FCT, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide, that the people of the state were already regretting voting for ACN in the 2011 general elections, as “irresponsible, insincere and insensitive.”

ACN in a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Dauda Kolawole, said the minister was economical with the truth.

Describing the statement as an act of irresponsibility, insincerity and insensitivity on the part of the minister, the party said, “rather than regretting voting in ACN, it is actually the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government that the people of the state are having eternal regret voting in”.

“Indeed, it will be very hard for the people of Oyo State to forget the unprecedented level of violence, looting and brigandage unleashed on the state for the eight years that PDP government ruled”.

This, according to the party, had further been confirmed by the ongoing arraignment of former Governor Adebayo Alao-Alaka in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for alleged looting of the state treasury to the tune of over N25 billion.

“Even while in government, several of Alao-Akala’s commissioners and aides were regular guests of the EFCC, answering questions over the looting spree in Oyo State,” the ACN spokesman said.

He also recalled the wanton destruction of lives and property which was the order of the day in the state during the Alao-Akala administration due to the inglorious role the governor played in the crises that hit the state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

He wondered what could have made the people of the state regret having an ACN government in place, when indeed, the Abiola Ajimobi government has, within the short period it came on board, demonstrated its readiness to turn the state around and restore its pacesetting status.
