5 die in fresh Ibadan auto crashes

IBADAN- THREE days after two auto crashes in Ibadan killed 12 persons, two fresh auto crashes claimed five lives Thursday.

One of the accidents which left 11 vehicles seriously damaged took place on Ojoo-Moniya end of the road, while the second one occurred at Ring Road area of Ibadan.

It was gathered that a fully loaded petroleum tanker with number plate XD 159 BDJ, had a brake failure and ran into two commercial vehicles marked XY 912 AGL and GA985 LSR.

Confirming the accident, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Moniya through its unit Commander, Mr. Adebayo Francis, said the trailer suppressed the commercial buses.

According to him, four victims of the accident died before they got to the hospital for treatment.

On the auto crash at Ring Road, the Road Safety corps said another fuel tanker also had brake fault and skidded off the road and hit other vehicles.

When the conductor of the tanker attempted to use wedge to stop the trailer from somersaulting, the truck ran over him and smashed his head.

As a result of the accident, there were traffic jam but the quick response by FRSC men saved the situation as they controlled the traffic.
