Abuja – A lawmaker, Akpan Umoh (PDP-Akwa Ibom), on Friday said the House of Representatives would ensure 99 per cent implementation of the 2012 budget.
In an interview Umoh said that the House would be “very robust” in its oversight functions.
NAN recalls that on Oct. 4 at plenary, Rep. Patrick Ikhariale (PDP-Edo) had moved a motion on the selective implementation of the 2011 budget by the executive.
“We are going to be very serious in terms of budget implementation as it forms the bedrock of any growing democracy,” Umoh said.
According to him, implementation of budget is a critical aspect of the provision of dividends of democracy to the people.
“As politicians, execution of projects becomes very important to us because it forms the basis for taking democracy back to the people at home,’’ he said.
The lawmaker said that with the falling oil price hovering around 77.7 dollars, the country would be realistic in terms of income and expenditure in the 2012 budget.
“For once, we are going to be very realistic as it has to do with the 2012 budget,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the benchmark for oil was pegged at 75 dollars per barrel. (NAN)
