It was a beehive of activities last Saturday at the Teslim Balogun stadium,Surulere, Lagos as thousands of Nigerians stormed there for the novelty match organized in honour of the late Lady of Songs, Chief Christy Essien Igbokwe.

On the line-up were musicians movie stars, and journalists alike. The match saw the musicians defeating Nollywood stars 4-3 through penalty shoot-out after their game ended goalless draw.

Playing from the Nollywood side included the duo of Aki and Pawpaw, Bob Manuel Udokwu, Emeka Enoch, Fred Amata and among others. The movie stars fought doggedly against the musicians led by Zaky Azeez but could not seal a finish.

To ensure that the players representing the musicians did not disappoint, renowned musician, Onyeka Onwenu , came down from the State Box and ran straight into the field to chase the ball around in a manner that was hailed by the crowd. Her action made an impact on the musicians as they went ahead to win the match.

More so, Lagos State chapter of the sports Writer Association of Nigeria (SWAN), proved that its member were not only story writers but also good at football as they defeated hapless entertainment writers 3-0.

The event also saw dazzled fans, friends and lovers of the late Akwa Ibom songstress, alongside the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dr Godwill Akpabio, who was the special Guest of honour.

The novelty match was organized by the burial committee headed by former PMAN President and musician, Tony Okoroji. At the end of the competition, Gov. Akpabio handed the trophy to winners of the competition.
