Before the recent hosting of former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland Captain Roy Keane and former Chelsea and French International, Marcel Desailly by Guinness Nigeria Plc in two of Nigeria’s bubbling cities-Lagos and Ibadan, the company has been yielding to the yearning of soccer loving Nigerians.
Guinness Nigeria Plc ensured in June this year that the senior national soccer team – Super Eagles played a top rated friendly match with the staging of a friendly match against former World Champion – Argentina at the Abuja Stadium on June 1. The match would remain memorable in the history of Nigeria football as the Coach Samson Siasia-tutored side pounded the Argentines 4-1.
But less than three months after the encounter, the company decided to bring two of the world’s soccer legends to Nigeria and this is what the Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria Plc, Devlin Hainsworth described as part of their efforts to provide unique experience for their consumers and passionate soccer fans.
Hainsworth, said the hosting of the stars was part of efforts to satisfy the yearnings of its consumers: “We want to provide our consumers with unique football experience. As usual, we want to continue with what we had started when we organised the Nigeria, Argentina international friendly match in Abuja. So, bringing these football legends is part of our efforts to provide a unique experience for our consumers.”
He said the two icons represent passion and power which are the features of Guinness.
“We decided to bring the two stars becuase they possess the qualities in Guinness. Roy Keane stands for passion because when he was playing he was doing with lots of passion while Desailly being an Africa has the power which is synomymous with every African. So they both fit in and we are happy that they had come to meet with their teeming fans especially with over N1million member of the Guinness VIP,” he said.
