LAGOS-NATIONAL Pension Commission, PenCom, weekend, said it would engage recovery agents to assist in recovery of un-remitted pension deductions by private sector organistions, including the media.
The recovery agents according to the commission would have powers to take legal actions against defaulting organisations.
At a one-day interactive session on the Pension Reform Act, PRA, 2004, jointly organised by PenCom and Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, NECA, Director-General of PenCom, Mr. Mohammed Ahmad, lamented that one of the challenges facing the Contributory Pension Scheme, CPS, in Nigeria was non-remittance of deducted funds by private sector organisations, including the media.
Represented by Mr. Ehimeme Ohioma, Head, Investment Supervision Department Unit, Mr. Ahmad said, “in an effort to ensure compliance with the provisions of the PRA 2004, the Commission had adopted various strategies which included on-site inspection of employers, collaboration with regulatory and professional bodies, public enlightenment campaigns and application of regimes of sanctions. The Commission also continued to collaborate with other government agencies in achieving full compliance by the private sector.
