Uba tasks warring Anambra communities on peace

By Innocent Anaba

Senator Andy Uba has called on the Ogbunka and Owere-Ezukalla communities, in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, enmeshed in violent land tussle to restore permanent peace returned in the communities.

The crisis, which was over a parcel of land on the boundary between the communities, said to contain rich mineral deposits, had claimed lives and property worth millions of naira.

The tension that engulfed Anambra State over the violent clash between Ogbunka and Owere-Ezukalla had been a source of worry not only to the state government, but also to the Federal Government.

Senator Uba, representing Anambra South Senatorial District, where the two warring communities are located, had visited his constituents in the communities to pacify them.

Appealing for peace, he said: “There is no need to fight. We are brothers. We will notify the various agencies that can help resolve this long-running crisis. Please let’s embrace peace.”

Though peace had since returned to the communities, Senator Uba has continued his plea to the communities to ensure that the peace was sustained.
