The election of Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, candidate for the Lagos Central Senatorial District, was, yesterday, upheld by the National Assembly/Legislative House Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lagos.
The tribunal, ruling on an application filed by Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, counsel to Tinubu, the tribunal Chairman, Justice Maurice Eneji, dismissed two petitions by Labour Party, LP, and its candidate for the district, Mr. Oladapo Durosinmi-Etti, for being incompetent.
LP and Mr. Durosinmi-Etti had, in two separate petitions, challenged the non-appearance of the party logo on the ballot papers and urged the tribunal to annul the election of Mrs. Tinubu and order a re-run.
The tribunal, in two rulings, held that LP and its candidate (Durosinmi-Etti) failed to comply with paragraph 18 (1), (2) and (4) of the Electoral Act.
